August 2025 Writing Update

Alright. Another month. Another time being late. Another excuse about how busy I am. But, hey, in spite of said busyness, there was still progress to be made. Slow-going progress for sure, but progress nonetheless. The horror is coming along, and I seem to be getting into more of a groove with that in the past month than I felt I was in June. So that’s great. The whodunit screenplay that I’ve been treating as my “lighter fare” on less available days is at something akin to its midpoint. Which is great. However, not so great when you consider that I’m on about page 70something there. I’ll, uh, definitely have some serious trimming to do at some point.

Funny enough, one thing I’ve been trying out with that midpoint is a life-pause. I don’t know the eventual results of this, but I reached a point in the story where there was a time jump. So, I took this point as a natural moment in my own life where it would make more sense to spend more of my time with the horror novel. This somewhat removes me from the screenplay after its first major chunk was completed. Eventually, I return to the post-time-jump with fresher eyes and a perspective unsullied by what I knew from the first half. This could be helpful in keeping me in a clear and proper headspace relative to the characters. What do I / they remember? What about forget? What’s most important? What have might I need to draw attention to or clean up? This might make that clearer. Or, you know, could always make it worse…
