June 2025 Writing Update

Well, sprung has more or less sprung. And, with it, so have my ideas for revisions for the whodunit. They necessitate some pretty severe overhauls with plot beats, characterizations, and overall mechanics of the clues and major moments of the mystery themselves, but dissecting the details and figuring it all out can be rather rewarding. It can also be incredibly frustrating, but that’s what breaks are for! That, and second projects. Anyway, I feel like I’ve got a (potentially) much more tonally and thematically cohesive mystery in the pipeline, so that makes planning a rewrite less agonizing. It also helps that there’s a surplus of detective television and film coming out recently. Thank you, Pokerface and The Residency!

As for the horrors, they are still, well, horrifying. And, ironically, still much breezier to work on day-to-day than the fine details of a mystery. When things venture into the realm of the fantastic and make believe, it turns out science and minute details are less pertinent to your story. Go figure.
